It’s summertime, a busy time for travel. One thing you don’t want to experience on your trip is bedbugs – those small, wingless insects that feed on blood, causing itchy bites, and generally irritating their human hosts. While the EPA, CDC, and the USDA all consider bed bugs a public health pest, bed bugs are not known to transmit or spread disease.
It’s believed the recent increase in bed bugs in the U.S. may be due to more travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices. The good news is that there are ways to control bed bugs. Check out information to help you identify, prevent or control bed bugs, and myths about the pest, so you’re prepared if you do meet one. Safe travels!
