Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. This video highlights a news broadcast on the first Earth Day more than 50 years ago. While the message is bleak for the time, the good news is that a lot of progress has been made since then, improving the quality of our air, water, and the environment.
This year’s theme is “Our Power, Our Plant”, inviting everyone around the globe to unite behind renewable energy, and to triple the global generation of clean electricity by 2030.
More than one billion people in over 190 countries are mobilized for action every Earth Day. There are a lot of different things you can do to support the efforts whether participating in an area clean up, planting trees, become a citizen scientist, and more.
We need pollinators to ensure the persistence of our crop yields and ensure healthy sustainable ecosystems now and in the future.
